Alexander Melamid is an artist and performance artist.Born July 14, 1945 in Moscow.Studied at the Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Art and Industry, where he met Vitaly Komar.He worked in the duo "Komar and Melamid" is considered the founder of the direction of "Social Art".In the late 1960s, they began working in collaboration and were among the creators of Socialist Art. One of the organizers of the Bulldozer exhibition.Under pressure from the Soviet authorities, both immigrated to the United States in 1977, settling in New York City. Recently worked on his Art Healing Ministry project "Gold is back, thank god!"In 2019, presented his first solo project in Russia since emigrating in 1977. The performance "I'm - God!" took place on the grounds of JART Gallery in May 2019. At the same time, the DA!Moscow art show in Gostiny Dvor presented Alexander Melamid's project "Russian Version of Abstract Expressionism", a cycle of paintings also created during the performance.
